Paint on your iPad with the Sensu Brush
There are a ton of cool painting and drawing apps in the iOS and Android stores. Some of them deliver incredibly realistic renderings of painting surfaces and different types of paint. Oil paint really looks like oil paint. You can see the water flowing on screen as you paint in virtual watercolor.
With all this magic available at our fingertips, we became pretty dissatisfied with painting with our fingertips. Other styli on the market always came up short for us. We created Sensu to deliver a more realistic painting experience on capacitive devices. We’ve designed fine artist brushes for decades and are familiar with the subtleties of touch, the “feel” of a brush touching a surface. Sensu has a real responsiveness like the best artist brushes. It dances across the screen giving a more true feeling that you’re really painting.

Why go for 2D when you can go for 3D? The MakerBot Replicator is a personal “3D printer” that allows you to build objects from scratch. The printer uses ABS (the substance that Lego uses in its blocks) and excretes it layer-by-layer until the desired object is built. You can design objects yourself or download model templates created by other uses from the MakerBot’s website (www.thingiverse.com).

Why I Opted for a Toshiba Tablet
For the past couple of months, I’ve been eyeing on getting a tablet and just last week I finally got into acquiring one. Like every person deliberating on getting a tablet, I originally opted for an iPad. I already own a Macbook and an iPhone, so it makes sense to get one especially with the new iCloud recently introduced by Apple. But I ended up getting the Toshiba Tablet and I couldn’t be happier. Yes, the Toshiba Tablet which also goes by the name Thrive for the non-Canadians out there.

Ralph Lauren is one of the fashion brands that have placed a strong emphasis in integrating art, design and technology. Just last year, they produced a live 4D show in their New York and London flagship locations which truly showed their commitment to digital innovation. Using architectural video mapping technology, Ralph Lauren animated their flagship buildings’ facades with seamless, life-like transformations which has been a pretty impressive feat considering they didn’t resort to 3D glasses.
Read MorePillar by NCR: An ATM for the Illiterate

An often challenge associated with introducing ATMs in developing nations is the population’s lack of literacy levels needed to successfully operate and complete transactions. To address this issue, the company NCR which specializes in transactional technology, has conceptualized an ATM that requires minimal input with fingerprint detection as a mode of authorization and select buttons preset to various denominations. Named as Pillar, the machine provides a simplified, more accessible banking experience by eliminating the complexity associated with a typical ATM and stripping it down to the bare minimum.

Read MoreTesco Virtual Subway Supermarket

South Korea’s virtual supermarket has been receiving a lot of traction for redefining how customers make their grocery purchases. Home Plus, a localized rebranded version of UK-based chain Tesco, has set up wall installations in the country’s busiest subway stations allowing commuters to see real-size grocery shelves packed with goods much like what you would see on an actual store. People can make purchases by capturing the QR code attached to each product through their smartphones. The captured products are then added to the person’s shopping list which is then processed on an online store for transaction and delivery.

Its novelty is definitely sparking a lot of interest and it is arguably a viable alternative to online shopping (or grocery shopping for that matter). Online sales have reportedly increased by 130 percent, and the number of registered users by 76 percent. It would be interesting to see how North American brands will adopt this concept and derive new innovative models of e-shopping that caters to the busy urban lifestyle.
